Our Journey

Many years ago, we received an invite to go dove hunting, began visiting our dear friends’ place and fell in love with the area and the community of Rocksprings, TX. We then spent years looking for a place of our own knowing Rocksprings was more than a place we wanted to visit; it was a place we wanted to call home.

In 2013 we were fortunate to find our very own slice of heaven and immediately began brainstorming what we wanted to call it. That is when we came up with Texas Gill Country, knowing it is truly God’s country, and we are just blessed to be stewards of His land.

Over the next few years, we focused our love, passion and determination into making our slice of heaven a place where we could get away, let our longhorn cattle roam and would someday call home. 

When developing our brand for our longhorns, we realized that Texas Gill Country was more than our property or our cattle brand. Texas Gill Country is our brand that encompasses all the love, passion and drive that God continues to bless us with.

Although our Longhorn herd is small, it is pure Texas Gill Country bred, and are Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, registered.

Fast forward to 2020 when we were both told to work remote during the COVID19 pandemic. It was at that time, we advised our employers we would be working from our property in Rocksprings, TX.  We found spending months at our slice of heaven, along with everything else happening at the time, allowed us to do some deep soul-searching. 

Not long after returning to the concrete jungle the consensus of our soul-searching was clear.  It was time for us to get back to our small-town roots and move to our property full time.  The decision was then made to semi-retire and walk away from our heavy industrial construction human resources careers that blessed us for many years.  We then sold “The Gill’s by the Bay”, our place in Shoreacres, TX and moved full-time to our home in Rocksprings in May of 2021.
